Recycling centre increases opening hours

The Newtown Road Recycling Centre is to open for longer hours on Thursdays during summer months.

Between April and September, each year, the Household Waste Recycling Centre will be open until 8pm.

On other days, sites will open as normal from 9am -6pm.

West Berkshire Council decided to extended the opening hours during early 2020 in a bid to provide more opportunities for recycling.

Since the pandemic hit, it was not feasible to implement that decision, as originally intended, but it says that it is now in a position to go ahead with the changes.

It has not been possible at this time to introduce the same extended summer hours at the Padworth facility due to an existing planning constraint.

The council’s executive member for environment and waste councillor Steve Ardagh-Walter said: “As a Council, we are always looking for additional ways to help our residents to recycle more and dispose of their waste responsibly.

“We are pleased to be able to introduce extended opening hours on Thursdays at our Newtown Road, Newbury facility.”

He went on: “This will be useful to residents who prefer to visit the site after their normal working hours.”

In order to use the recycling centres, register for an online permit and book an appointment at www.westberks.gov.uk/clickandtip or call the council on 01635 519080.

More information on the recycling centres and services can be found on the council’s website.
