Renowned children’s author Steve Cole visits Park House School in Newbury

A renowned children’s and science fiction author paid a visit to a Newbury secondary school to share with pupils what inspires his work.

Steve Cole – known for his Young Bond books, Doctor Who novels and sci-fi collaborations with British astronaut Tim Peake – appeared at Park House School and led two sessions with year 7 and 8 pupils.

Park House students had the opportunity to listen to Mr Cole on stage give an interesting talk on the weird and crazy facts about space, as well as hear some extracts and ideas taken from his collaboration with Mr Peake on the Swarm Rising and Swarm Enemy books.

He also spoke about facts and read some thrilling extracts taken from the Young Bond series that were focused on spies and gadgets.

Librarian Lynsey Rhodes, who organised the event last month, said: “He did quite an interactive talk in the main hall regarding some of the Young Bond books he has written, and he also did a talk about space and held a Q&A on NASA.

“Steve then finished off the day with book signings and photographs in the library. It was a fantastic day all round.”
