It offered the chance for people to bring along electrical goods, clothes, textiles, pottery, toys, wood items and, for the first time, bicycles.

Three bikes had their derailleur gears and brakes successfully adjusted and volunteers showed visitors how to do this themselves.

“There was a huge variety of repairs, including replacing a suitcase handle,” said a spokesperson for the café.

Other items repaired included several vacuum and carpet cleaners, a mix of CD, radio, cassette and tape players/recorders, kitchen items and clothing such as coats, jumpers and dresses.

Knives, secateurs and shears were cleaned and sharpened.

And the volunteers had four hedge trimmers in for repair, all with cables cut during trimming.

The café will be meeting next on Sunday, August 18, at Newbury Methodist Church Hall from 2pm to 4.30pm.

Please email NewburyThatchamRepairCafe@gmail.com for further details or to send information about items for potential repair.
