Repair to mains pipe leak on Lower Way, Thatcham taking Thames Water ‘longer than anticipated’
A mains pipe leak repair in Thatcham is taking Thames Water longer than anticipated.
Water, of an unnatural blue colour, was spotted by residents on one of the pathways surrounding the new Lower Way housing development site.
Engineers began carrying out an excavation and repair on June 21 (Wednesday) which was due to be completed by the end of that week.
However, the excavated area is still open with a pool of water filling it.
The utility company says it will continue the repair in overnight instalments.
A Thames Water spokesperson said: “Our teams have been working on repairing a water main in the field at Lower Way in Thatcham.
“Due to the location of the water mains pipe our teams are carrying out the repairs overnight to reduce any impact to properties in the area.
“Unfortunately, the repair is taking longer than anticipated but we’d like to assure residents, our teams are working hard to complete this work as quickly and safely as possible.
“Residents in the area have been placed onto a different part of our water network to keep their taps flowing.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused during this time.”
Recently water company, Icosa applied to be the new sewage undertaker for the new site.
Its application raised no objection with West Berkshire Council but is yet to be approved and formalised.
