The 29-year-old, of Downside, East Ilsley, admitted stealing £100 worth of goods from Boots in Newbury on February 20.

He further admitted stealing £162 worth of Christmas gifts from the same store on December 20 last year.

Lucas also has numerous previous convictions for public order offences and offences involving violence.

District judge Samuel Goozee sentenced him to 36 weeks in prison.

He said a custodial sentence was necessary because the offending was “the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders, the offence committed while on a deferred sentence order” and because of his previous convictions.
