Report it to us: West Berkshire Council responds to Lower Way speeding concerns

West Berkshire Council (WBC) has responded to concerns of speeding on Lower Way in Thatcham.

Residents have written into the council but it has said only Thames Valley Police (TVP) can make changes.

TVP has the power to enforce speed restrictions and any decisions on new locations of mobile or fixed camera sites.

WBC said there are already a number of speed cameras along Lower Way.

However, it does have the capability to collect speed data information using various forms of equipment.

A WBC spokesperson said: “We encourage people to report speeding traffic to us to enable us to monitor and report on driver behaviour where a concern has been raised at https://www.westberks.gov.uk/speedingtraffic

“We also work with communities to help escalate their concerns with TVP and to get involved with programmes like Community Speed Watch https://communityspeedwatch.org/FRONT-v2-Home.php

“As part of this community work, speed indicator devices are available through parish and town councils as part of their local speed intervention programme.

“Current enforcement camera data or any enforcement requests should be directed to the police customer service via this email address NeighbourhoodSpeedSolutions@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk”
