Geordie Taylor pens book of 5km walks round Hungerford’s beautiful countryside
A HUNGERFORD resident has published a book featuring 5km walks around the town’s beautiful countryside.
Geordie Taylor – pictured with his dogs, Smudge and Comet – said: “Hungerford is at the very heart of the North Wessex Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
“As a resident of the town with two dogs to walk every day, I’m fortunate to have the Kennet and Avon Canal, Hungerford Common and Freeman’s Marsh all on my doorstep – but even those acres of glorious open space can become a little repetitive after a while.
“Therefore, I decided to research and document a book-load of walks that are near Hungerford – and, as it turned out, I found 47 of them.
“They’re all circular walks around 5km in length on public footpaths, bridleways or country roads.”
The book embraces technology by providing two QR codes for each walk.
Mr Taylor added: “One will navigate your car from where you are to the start and finish point of the walk, while the other will navigate your boots from start to finish whilst on the walk.”
Sadly, during the compilation of the book, the son of a good friend of Mr Taylor’s took his own life, so £1 will be donated to Men’s Minds Matter for every book sold.
The book is available at Hungerford Bookshop priced £12.
