Residents frustrated by wasted water
Compton villager Alan Franklin, of Apple Pie Hill, has spoken of his frustration that the water company has failed to act to fix a leak from a pumping station, flooding Coombe road, Compton, for more than two weeks.
Mr Franklin said he noticed a Thames Water van parked by the flooded road on Tuesday, but his hopes of it being cleared were short lived when the Thames Water employee he spoke to said he had “no facilities to report it. It’s not my job.”
“That’s not a very good attitude,” said Mr Franklin. “It’s pathetic.”
A similar incident has been reported by a resident in Lip Lane, Wickham Heath.
John Davis, aged 71, first reported a leak from a pumping station two months ago.
“This has been an ongoing problem. This green box has sprung a leak and it has been ongoing for the last 2 months. It is steadily getting worse and dribbling down the gravel track which comes down to my house and my neighbours drive.”
Mr Davis has also expressed concern over the action of Thames Water.
“They just don’t know what to do. Nobody has a key [to the pumping station] and meanwhile the water keeps leaking.
“The water must extend half a mile down the gravel track.”
A spokesman from Thames Water said yesterday (Wednesday): "We were alerted to the leak on Coombe Road on Friday. Our engineers will be in attendance today and we aim to have this sorted as soon as possible.
"We are really sorry for the length of time it has taken to get this repair [at Lip Lane] done. It is important to us to get this leak fixed and on this occasion we accept we could have done it quicker. Our aim now is to get this repaired as soon as possible. "
