Residents urged to sign up to energy switching scheme
Council says bills will fall
PEOPLE in West Berkshire could see their energy bills fall if they sign up to a new scheme.
West Berkshire Council’s energy-switching scheme allows residents to use their collective bargaining power to secure a competitive tariff from energy suppliers.
The council said that energy bills would fall by an average of £294.
Since registration opened in April, 182 people have signed up, with 96 per cent able to save money on their annual energy bills.
Householders who have signed up are informed of their tariff offer, which varies based on individual circumstance, and they have until June 28 to decide if they want to accept the offer.
The council’s executive for communities and protection, Marcus Franks (Con, Speen) said: “This is fantastic news for those who have registered for the scheme – and it gives an extra incentive for anyone not signed up yet.
“I’m delighted we’ve been able to roll this out for local residents as it is providing excellent value for money on energy bills.
“It’s not too late to take part, so tell your family, neighbours and friends because we want as many people as possible to be able to benefit from the scheme.”
People with a West Berkshire postcode can still sign up, but registration must be completed and an offer accepted by Tuesday, June 28.
