Three petitions to cut speed limits handed to West Berkshire Council
Three petitions asking the West Berkshire Council to help with speeding motorists were lodged at West Berkshire Council’s executive meeting last night (Thursday).
One was for Grazeley Green, which has been trying to get speed limits reduced for 20 years.
They want to get speed limits reduced from 50mph to 40mph, saying over the years there have been several accidents along junctions off New Road.
A spokesman said that 12 years ago members of the community signed a petition, which was rejected as it could not be policed. The petition was signed by 29 residents.
Another went through for Stratfield Mortimer, with residents wanting a speed drop outside St Mary’s Junior School.
The council was told around 350 people signed an online survey with the majority saying they wanted it reduced from 30mph to 20mph.
A third petition of 230 signatures was lodged by residents of Grove Road asking for speed measures.
Residents of the road, which is near Donnington Grove golf course – said there were no measures at all to keep motorists to the speed limit of 30mph, and during rush hours a lot of people speed.
“With narrow pavement there is a real concern about safety,” said a spokesperson.
“Someone had a parked car crashed into, quite a few cats have been run over, and we would like the council to address the issue.
“We just need some changes to the road to address the speeding.”
All three petitions were handed in for review by the council’s highways team.
