Restraining order for Donnington stalker Robert Tonkin, who fitted tracker to Compton victim’s car




A stalker who fitted an electronic tracker to his victim’s car has been sentenced.

Robert Tonkin appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 31.

The 34-year-old, of Castle Lane, Donnington, admitted stalking Cassandra Abraham in Compton between Monday, January 1, and Sunday, May 26.

Specifically, the court heard, Tonkin placed a tracking device on her vehicle to track her movements, attended her home address, sent unwanted Valentine and Easter gifts and bombarded her with with calls and messages, knowing that his conduct would cause serious alarm or distress.

At a previous hearing magistrates ordered pre-sentence reports to be prepared on an ‘all options’ basis, including custody.

However at Wednesday’s sentencing hearing Tonkin, who was legally represented by Fabienne Macey, was made subject to an 18-month community order.

Under its terms he was required to comply with a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement and to complete 140 hours of unpaid community work.

In addition, Tonkin was made subject to a two-year restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim either directly or indirectly and from going to a specified address in Compton.

Finally, he was ordered to pay £85 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £114.
