Restraining order placed on jilted lover
Tilehurst man sent 'menacing' texts
A JILTED man who bombarded his ex-lover with hundreds of texts has been made subject to a restraining order.
Newbury magistrates heard on Thursday, December 17, how Shane Roberts sent nearly 500 messages to Kayleigh Stubbs after she ended their relationship.
Helen Waite, prosecuting, said Ms Stubbs contacted police after some of them became menacing in nature.
One of them read: “You keep calling me a woman beater – I’ll show you one,” the court heard.
Ms Waite said that when he was arrested, the 27-year-old, who lives at Lyndhurst Road, Tilehurst, exercised his right to silence.
Mr Roberts admitted sending a menacing communication on November 16.
Mandy Harkin, defending, said the four-year relationship had produced two children.
She added: “She used to say he was the best boyfriend in the world – everything was fantastic.”
However, Ms Stubbs ended the relationship out of the blue, leaving her client bewildered and hurt.
Ms Harkin went on: “It was quite heartbreaking and things just got the better of him.”
She insisted her client had never been violent in the relationship and added: “He never touched her or abused her, so where those suggestions came from he doesn’t know.”
Magistrates imposed a six month conditional discharge and ordered Mr Roberts to pay a £150 criminal courts charge plus a £15 victim surcharge.
In addition they made him subject to a six-month restraining order preventing him from contacting Ms Stubbs or going to her Tilehurst home.
