Retrofestival takes the Newbury Showground by storm

Retrofestival – a celebration of all things retro – took to the Newbury Showground over the weekend, with visitors enjoying a wide range of displays and entertainment.

Among the attractions on offer were exhibitions of classic cars, including vehicles brought in from the local area, and performances by old-school bands and dancers.

There were also opportunities for visitors to view more exotic vehicles and artefacts up close, including military aircraft and weaponry.

The Red Arrows surprised even event staff when, having been booked for one fly-by, they turned around and passed over the event a second time.

Organiser Andy Forster summed up the event: "Phenomenal is the word we would use.

"We were very very pleasantly surprised how many people turned up.

"It's nice to see people smiling and enjoying themselves after such a difficult year-and-a-half.

"We started preparing for this eight months ago – you can't plan something like this at the last minute.

"We love Newbury – the people have embraced us, and we've embraced them as well.

"Our nickname is the 'friendly festival', and the people of Newbury are no small part of that."
