Revealed: Royal wedding mug design for Bucklebury
Kate and Will commemorative mugs designed by Emma Bridgewater have gone into production
WHAT could become one of the most sought after royal wedding mementos went into production yesterday (Monday) - Bucklebury's very own specially commissioned commemorative mugs.
Bucklebury Village Events commissioned pottery firm Emma Bridgewater to design and create the mugs, which will be given to everyone aged under 16 in Bucklebury in celebration of the marriage of Kate Middleton, the daughter of a Chapel Row family, to Prince William.
The mug, created by Matthew Rice, the husband of Ms Bridgewater, combines Bucklebury's emblem of an oak leaf with a Kate and William design.
A selection will be sold at the ticket-only Bucklebury Farm Park Tea in the Park celebration event on April 29, with baby mug and half-pint design mugs also going on sale.
Demand for the sponge painted hand-decorated mugs, with an initial production run of just 500, is expected to be high among royal memorabilia collectors.
They will be priced at £13.95 for the half pint and £9.95 for the baby mug.
Wynne Frankum, a member of the Bucklebury Village Events planning team and chairwoman of Bucklebury Parish Council said: “The wedding of Catherine Middleton and Prince William is a very special day in the history of the village and we wanted to commission something for the children of the parish that might in time become a collectors' piece.
“We also wanted something that reflected a rural parish and so we approached Emma Bridgewater and were thrilled when her team agreed to help us – we are delighted with the result.”
Orders can be placed for the commemorative mugs by email via buckleburyevents@gmail.com quoting the number and size of mugs required.
