Vicar prepares for charity trek across Spain for Prior’s Court in Hermitage
An aging vicar is set to cycle 420 miles across Spain for charity.
It may read like the plot to a film, but there is nothing imaginary about the Rev Phil White’s epic cycling challenge to raise money for autism charity, Prior’s Court — which supports his two stepsons.
The 70-year-old, who now lives in Leicester, will soon be embarking on the incredible 420-mile trek through Northern Spain from Bilbao to Santiago along the historic pilgrimage route — the Camino Del Norte.
Mr White, who has never done anything like this before, said: “I am currently in remission from Type 2 diabetes and started on a remission challenge in May 2021, leading to me buying an e-bike in 2022, and this is what started me on my fitness journey.
“I’m really looking forward to enjoying the challenge and beauty of the famous Camino.”
He added: “Whilst I’m enjoying the outdoors of Northern ‘green’ Spain, the motivation will be to support the young people enjoying outdoor equipment and activities for themselves.”
And the reverend has a number of supporters helping him on his journey, including bike retailer, Velospeed, where he got his ‘Moustache’ e-bike.
The company has also supported him with a generous donation.

Mr White’s challenge will take place from Tuesday, August 29 until Wednesday, September 13.
