Revised Sandleford plans to go on public display today (Thursday)

Public will have last chance to have their say on 2,000 home development today

REVISED plans for the single biggest planning application in West Berkshire’s history will be on display at an exhibition in Newbury today.

It will be the last chance for the public to have their say on proposals for the 2,000-home Sandleford Park development before a formal planning application is submitted to West Berkshire Council.

The event, hosted by Sandleford’s two main developers – Bloor Homes Southern and Donnington New Homes – will take place on Thursday, June 18, at Newbury Rugby Club on Monks Lane between 3pm and 8pm.

The developers have promised additional information covering key issues such as access, layout and local services which had been raised at the previous exhibition held in February, although details could not be confirmed as the NWN went to press.

On display at the exhibition next week will be the revised plans for the first phase of the development, which will include up to 400 homes and a new primary school as well as the overall masterplan for the entire site.

There will also be more detail about the Countryside Park – looking at habitats, footpaths and the ancient woodland.

Since the last public event at Newbury Rugby Club in February, the location of the new primary school has changed to “offer a more intuitive layout and improved access from Monks Lane”.

When asked by the Newbury Weekly News for the exact location of the primary school and how access roads to the site had changed, Bloor Homes said it could not confirm any details ahead of the consulation event.

The plans have been revised following discussions with council officers and the two developers.

Bloor Homes Southern says it has changed the layout “to better follow the aspirations of the council in the Sandleford Park Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)”.

The application for the first phase of the development and the masterplan of the whole site is expeted to be put forward this summer.

Land at Sandleford Park, near Monks Lane, has been allocated for 2,000 new homes alongside a substantial new countryside park as part of the West Berkshire Core Strategy.

Guiseppe Zanre, from Bloor Homes Southern, said: “We are very keen to report back to residents on the issues they raised earlier in the year, including how they have fed into our emerging plans before we submit them to West Berkshire Council.

“This is an important, long-term development site and we’ve spent a lot of time reviewing how we can responsibly deliver the new homes, a countryside park and community facilities.”

Residents can also call Bloor Homes Southern on 0800 148 8911 or visit the website – www.sandlefordparkbloor homes.co.uk – where information about the updated plans will be posted following the exhibition.
