Riffs level 2

Wash Common musician publishes second teaching volume of guitar techniques

A WASH Common music teacher has just launched his second instructional guitar book.

Jonathan Strange, aged 25, has launched the second of the three volumes of Riff Training Level 2, which covers everything from technique to theory.

The book comes with a DVD, sheet music and 208 pages of everything you need to know to progress your guitar-playing technique.

The book follows on from the first, Riff Training Level 1, and teaches more advanced techniques.

He said: “I have been teaching music for about nine years and basically I developed quite a fanbase on the internet.

“People all over the world wanted lessons and I just couldn't drive to all their houses.

“That's where it came from.

“It's like having lessons with me in a book.”

He added: “The DVD is just me going in-depth into the technique and playing the exercises in the book.”

Back in 2008, Mr Strange launched the first book in the series and decided to self-publish it after realising he didn't want a publishing company to take a large chunk of the profits.

He said, however, that launching the first book was a bit of a nightmare but that he got there in the end.

He had to write the sheet music, create the art work, edit the book and film and edit the DVD.

He added: “It was a long and painful process.

“But a lot of the people who did the first book are doing the second one.

“I have thought about the third book but that's not going to be for a couple of years.”

Mr Strange has been playing guitar for 10 years and teaching for nine years.

His book is available on his website, priced £40, visit www.shredtraining.com
