Risk of flash flooding tomorrow (Tuesday)
Environment Agency issues warning of heavy rainfall that could lead to surface flooding
A WEATHER warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for possible flash flooding in parts of South East England tomorrow (Tuesday).
Heavy and thundery rain is likely to cross the English Channel to affect parts of southern England tonight (Monday) and this is then expected to spread northwards to affect southeast Wales and southern, central and eastern England which could cause problems in the early hours of the morning, according to the agency.
The rainfall is expected bring a low risk of surface water flooding in parts of southeastern and central England from the early hours of tomorrow morning and into rush hour, particularly in towns and cities.
There is the potential for some torrential downpours, particularly tomorrow morning, bringing the risk of localised flooding of land and roads. Flooding of homes and businesses is also possible overnight.
The agency has warned that unsettled weather may cause problems with surface water if drainage systems become blocked or overwhelmed. The risk of flooding from rivers remains low.
The Environment Agency has said it is monitoring the situation closely and encouraging local authorities and emergency services to prepare for the possibility of surface water flooding. It has advised local authorities should ensure that drains are clear and prepare for possible disruption as a result of the heavy rain.
The forecast risk of flooding across England and Wales today and on Wednesday is very low.
