River Enborne added to list of flood alerts

The Environment Agency yesterday (Sunday) issued a flood alert for the River Enborne and Foudry Brook, including the Ecchinswell brook and Kingsclere Brook, also the Foudry Brook and its tributaries from Scotsman’s Green to Green Park, including Stratfield Mortimer and Tadley on the Bishopswood Stream.
The River Enborne is likely to spill out onto the flood plain, flooding low lying land and roads, according to the EA, with no property flooding currently expected following the *flood alert (*flooding is possible, be prepared).
Rain will continue through this evening (Monday) according to the EA.
Meanwhile Newbury firefighters have accused the AA of wasting their time after the service advised a motorist to call 999 when he damaged his car after driving through a puddle.
A fire crew from Newbury Fire Station were called to Enborne Road, Newbury, at around 7.15am yesterday (Sunday) and found a Vauxhall Corsa stalled in the eight-inch puddle.
The crew manager said the man was not in any danger and pointed out the call out could have stopped the crew from attending an actual emergency.
Over at Headley Ford on the Hampshire/Berkshire border, in Thornford Road, (pictured above) the ford is currently submerged under about six ft of water, according to Rachel Flynn-Delargy, of Headley, who took this photograph:
“The flooding is incredible and no vehicle would be able to attempt it,” said Ms Flynn-Delargy.
The ford was closed and a concrete barrier later erected, after a Middlesex judge was swept to his death in flash floods at the ford in April.
A flood alert remains in place for the River Kennet and its tributaries from Berwick Bassett down to Newbury.
This includes Marlborough, Ramsbury, Hungerford, Denford, Kintbury and Newbury.
Also the River Og, the River Aldbourne, the Froxfield Stream, the River Dun and the River Shalbourne.
A flood alert is also in place on the River Pang, from East Ilsley to Pangbourne, including Compton, Hampstead Norreys, Frilsham, Bucklebury, Stanford Dingley, Bradfield and Tidmarsh and the Sulham Brook, from Theale to Pangbourne, including Sulham.
Further flood alerts are in place on the River Thames and its tributaries, from Days Lock, to above Pangbourne and on the River Thames from Pangbourne to Purley.
