River levels in Pangbourne and Goring still rising but River Kennet's has dropped
On Saturday, the River Kennet through Newbury and Theale broke record highest water levels, reaching 1.48m and 1.61m respectively, as did the River Lambourn at Shaw which reached 0.66m.
However, this morning (Tues) the River Kennet at Newbury had reduced to 1.38m and at Theale to 1.40m, while the River Lambourn at Shaw had remained the same.
Pictured, top, is a wall of sandbags built by army troops from 4 Rifles, residents and local councilllors on Friday along the bank of the River Lambourn, in a bit to protect properties from flooding in Walton Way, Newbury.
Meanwhile, the River Pang at Pangbourne has risen from 0.73m on Saturday to 0.80m.
The River Thames downstream at Goring had also risen from 4.79m on Saturday to 4.89m today.
The River Pang at Bucklebury and the River Lambourn at Eastbury have both decreased.
However, with more rain on the way, Thames Valley Police, the Environment Agency and West Berkshire Council are urging residents that more flooding could occur, while groundwater flooding is likely to remain an issue for several weeks.
The Met Office has forecast heavy showers between noon and 3pm today (Tues), and while most of tomorrow is set to be dry, the downpours will once again resume for most of Thursday and again from 9am to 6pm on Saturday.
No severe weather warnings have been issued however.
Thames Valley Police and the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) have said they will be assisting residents in some of the worst hit areas of the district today, including Eastbury and Great Shefford.
The fire service is also said to be operating with its resources very finely stretched in terms of staff, equipment, training and firefighters, according to the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).
FBU general secretary Matt Wrack said: “Firefighters are doing a fantastic job in the floods, saving lives and reducing damage done to homes and businesses, and are always proud to serve their communities during difficult times."
Several roads are still closed across the district due to flooding, including:
The A338 Newbury Road through Great Shefford
Lower Way, Thatcham
Deans Copse Road, Burghfield

West Berkshire Council and Thames Valley Police are urging motorists not to ignore or move closure signs, with some drivers still being caught travelling on flooded roads.
Some roads and pavements are flooded but remain open, and both motorists and pedestrians are being urged to take care and not attempt to travel through flood water.
