The Swan pub in Pangbourne re-opens following flood damage refurbishment
A riverside pub has re-opened after nearly a year of closure due to flood damage.
The Swan in Pangbourne was closed in January this year when Storm Henk overwhelmed the River Thames and caused extensive damage to the 17th-century pub.
Since then, The Swan has undergone “a stunning transformation that blends historic charm with contemporary elegance” and it reopened on Friday, December 13.
The Swan’s general manager Anna Otta said: “The Swan is a cherished part of Pangbourne, and we are thrilled to unveil this exciting new chapter.
“Having worked here for the last few years we’re eager to welcome back our loyal guests and introduce new visitors to our stunning new look and exceptional new menu.”
The refurbishment has seen the creation of a new garden right by the river which is inspired by urban rooftop retreats.
The pub’s interior has been refreshed with carefully curated artwork, bespoke furniture, wooden stalls and plush velvet chairs.
The brand-new seasonal menu, led by head chef Dave Oliver, is a celebration of bold, seasonal flavours crafted from sustainable ingredients.
Starters include pumpkin and sage ravioli and a poached duck egg with pastrami, smoked cucumber and duck fat potatoes.
For mains, signature dishes include the aromatic king prawn and monkfish Malabar curry and the classic fish and chips served with curry sauce and tartare.
For lighter bites, the pub is serving bar snacks such as the triple-cheese straws with truffled artichoke dip and hot honey chicken wings.
The Swan’s Sunday roasts offer a selection of hearty, traditional options, each served with all the classic trimmings.
The drinks menu features a curated selection of craft beers, wines, and cocktails.
