Road closed as firefighters tackle Thatcham fire

Two pumps from Newbury and one from Whitley Wood were called to Northfield Road after a fire broke out in a shed and quickly spread to the property, which was unoccupied.
The road was closed while firefighters tackled the fire.
Speaking at the scene station manager, Roy Horne, said: "When we arrived the shed was well alight but we dealt with it reasonably quickly."
Mr Horne said the most likely cause of the fire was arson as there were indications that someone had repeatedly tried to gain access to the shed. However, he said that the cause was still under investigation.
Mr Horne said that because furniture and belongings of the previous owner were stacked against the back of the shed, this had caused the fire to spread quickly.
A total of 15 crew, two officers and a response unit attended the scene and left at approximately 10:34pm.
