Road closure causes Newbury traffic tailbacks this morning

THERE are severe delays on the A4 in Newbury this morning as traffic tries to negotiate a road closure.

Kings Road closed yesterday, Monday, on the authority of West Berkshire Council, and will remain so until next Tuesday, May 3.

The closure is to enable the connection of utility services to a new development nearby.

By 8.30am there were traffic queues hundreds of metres long in the region of Hambridge Road.

The junction of Kings Road with Boundary Road westbound toward Sainsbury’s is also closed, with access only for deliveries.

West Berkshire Council has said diversions are clearly signposted for vehicles, with suspension of some parking spaces along Kings Road.

Meanwhile OneNetwork said an alternative route for light vehicles only is via Boundary Road, Stroud Green, Greenham Road, A339, and vice versa.

HGVs will be required to enter and exit Hambridge Road via its junction with London Road (A4) as there is no suitable diversion route.
