Roads and properties flooded

The Oxford Road at the mini roundabout near to the veterinary surgery, O' Gorman Slater, was flooded (pictured right, courtesy of Ben Wood) at 8.50am this morning (Thurs), but passable with care.
Following last night's heavy rainfall, flooding has been reported at other areas in Newbury, including Deans Copse Road, Theale, which is partly closed and in Woolton Hill, with motorists advised to drive with care and allow extra time for journeys.

Meanwhile firefighters also tackled a flooded cellar at Wash Common this morning.
According to firefighter Danny Lawton, of Red Watch, two fire engines were called from Newbury Fire Station at around 10am, to Falkland Cottage, on the road called Falkland Garth, off Essex Street.
Firefighters spent about half an hour at the scene, helping to pump out the water and make the electrics safe.
Two residents at the property, who did not want to be named, confirmed a pump in the cellar had failed, and which was in regular use in order to pump out water, but did not wish to comment further.
