Roads to be gritted ahead of forecasted snow tonight (Tues)
As of 4.30pm this afternoon, the Met Office has kept its yellow warning for snow and ice in place for West Berkshire, with showers of hail, sleet and snow expected between 6pm tonight until midday tomorrow (Weds).
And drivers are being warned to expect tricky driving conditions due to icy patches forming on untreated patches.
West Berkshire Council has said it will start gritting the district's primary routes at 8pm tonight.
In Hampshire, salting vehicles will start at 9pm, treating all priority one routes which include A roads, some B roads, major bus routes, roads to major emergency services, large schools and areas of high traffic concentration.
On top of the snowfall, residents are also being warned to prepare for three days of extreme weather including heavy rain and winds of up to 65mph.
A yellow warning of rain has been issued for parts of the region, including Hampshire, with the conditions forecast from midday onWednesday until 9am on Thursday.
The 19 hour warning says that a spell of persistent, and at times heavy rain is expected to develop across the far south and south east.
It also says that there could be up to 30mm of rainfall locally and advised the public they should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel from standing water or localised flooding.
A 24 hour yellow warning of wind is also in place for West Berkshire and Hampshire from 3pm on Wednesday until 3pm on Thursday.
Hampshire County Council have put extra highways crews on standby, including arboriculture teams who can deal with fallen trees on the roads throughout the day and night.
Stocks of filled sandbags are also ready to be deployed onto the highway network to keep water off the roads if needed, and vehicles will remain on standby through the night for potential additional salt spreading on priority one routes to tackle icy or snowy conditions.
