Roadworks and three-way traffic lights cause traffic build-up in Turnpike in Newbury

Road works and three-way traffic lights are causing a build-up of traffic in Turnpike.

The works are in place until just before midnight on Friday.

One road user has claimed that the traffic lights have all been on red since around 5.30am.

He said: “I have tried calling West Berkshire Council but was on hold for 15 minutes. Then I tried Thames Water, who are responsible for the roadworks, and was just on hold too.

“You just get put on hold and what's going on at the minute is a danger to the public.

“I am concerned there's going to be an accident.”

He said he also noticed that further temporary traffic lights were currently being installed further along Turnpike Road, at the roundabout with Stoney Lane.

He continued: “Traffic is heavy anyway, but it's awful now.

“The lights at Stoney Lane are going to make things worse now.”
