Roadworks commence on Boundary Road
David Wilson Homes has confirmed that intermittent roadworks will be carried out in Boundary Road for a month from today to connect utilities for the new homes at The Racecourse.
Project Manager for David Wilson Homes, Daniel Pavely, said: “We are working hard to ensure we minimise disruption caused by these works which will have localised cones controlling traffic flow.
“Due to the essential timeframe of the utility work, this unfortunately coincides with the recently announced rail bridge improvements by the Highways Agency, which will affect the A339 from March until October 2013.
“The local residents have been very understanding and we very much appreciate their co-operation during this period of the build.”
The news was greeted with disbelief by Greenham Parish Councillors.
Councillor, Billy Drummond, said: “Newbury is closed for business” and councillor Diane Smith predicted that it was “going to be a nightmare.”
The announcement comes following previous reports in the Newbury Weekly News of congestion chaos which will commence over the coming months, including works on Newbury’s busiest routes the A339 and the A4 London Road combined with overrunning construction work on the Hambridge Road roundabout.
Work is scheduled to start on the A339 rail bridge on March 4 and could last for eight months while upgrades are made by Network Rail to electrify the line.
Meanwhile, there will be motoring misery on the A4 London Road junction with Fir Tree Lane and Hambridge Road with work due to start on March 25.
