Robin Hood roundabout traffic monitored

TRAFFIC levels near the Robin Hood roundabout in Newbury are to be monitored at the end of this month.

With the Parkway shopping and residential complex open nearby and Christmas out of the way a series of tests will be carried out to assess how busy the roads are and how much of a problem it presents for drivers.

A new system was installed in 2008 whereby control of these signals is linked to each other, as well as to the lights on the Sainsbury's roundabout on the A339 to the south, so that vehicle waiting times are in theory reduced and traffic flows co-ordinated.

A spokesman for West Berkshire Council, Keith Ulyatt, said: “It was always planned that, following the opening of Park Way, we would have a look a traffic levels on the Robin Hood roundabout to see if there was any impact. It made sense to get Christmas and new year out of the way so it was business as usual.

“The monitoring will be done end of February and then we'll do some further checks after John Lewis opens to see if there is any impact from that.”
