Trinity school pupil celebrates success of Roblox game, The Meme RV, after YouTuber's Fraser2TheMax and Jayingee reviews
A TRINITY School pupil is celebrating after a game he helped create has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times.
Jonas Pearson, who is in Year 9 at the Newbury school, developed the game – The Meme RV - alongside friends and professional developers across the world.
“It is a game where you look at different memes that are universally understood,” he explained. “It’s a very fun game and it’s a good way to hang out with friends.”
After contacting some well-known YouTubers the 14-year-old found his game was featured in an article by Fraser2TheMax, who has 67.5k subscribers to his Roblox gaming channel, in the 110% Gaming magazine.
“After that we went from hundreds of players daily to thousands of players daily,” Jonas added. “We managed to get in touch with Jayingee [a YouTuber] who has 1.32m subscribers and then we went from thousands of players a day to tens of thousands, with hundreds of players at a time.”
Another YouTuber, with 1.6m subscribers, then made a video about the game, as it continued to gain momentum.
Jonas, who said he would like to continue with developing games as a future career, added: “We are rolling out gradual updates now.
“We have different biomes added, with a desert map and a jungle map added recently and we add in new memes every week.
“It’s quite a bit of work; building the maps will take an hour or so and then coding it is another few hours, but it’s worth it.”
Head of Griffin House at Trinity, Alix Dickinson, said: “We are really, really proud of Jonas.
“It’s great he has found something he excels at. The work he is doing on this game qualifies as 40 per cent of an A’Level.
“Some of the children in the lower years find it pretty cool; he is a great role model for them.”
