Roll-out of superfast broadband across Hampshire reaches over 14,500
THE ROLL-OUT of superfast fibre broadband across Hampshire has now reached more than 14,500 premises across the county.
Hampshire County Council have said that a £13.8m county-wide roll-out is on track to extend superfast broadband to 90 per cent of the county’s homes and businesses, by the end of 2015 and to 95 per cent by the end of 2017, thanks to a further joint £18.4m investment from the government and county council.
County council leader, Roy Perry, (Con Romsey Extra) said: “With 60 live cabinets in the county already offering superfast broadband services, Hampshire is firmly on track to help deliver access to superfast broadband to 95 per cent of homes and businesses across the county, which are not currently being covered by the commercial market.
“Focus is now moving towards the final five per cent – those areas in the most remote and hardest-to reach places in Hampshire that are not covered by existing plans.”
A £1.7 bn national investment has seen 30,000 to 40,000 premises across the country gaining access every week, enabling the fast downloading of feature- length films, chatting online with friends and family around the world and household members to go online simultaneously without the connection slowing down, or dropping out.
