Hundreds flock to Newbury Showground for the Berkshire Young Farmers Country Fayre
The sun shone on the hundreds of visitors at this year’s Berkshire Young Farmers Country Fayre.
Held at the Newbury Showground, Chieveley, on Sunday, the annual event boasted a range of country activities, stands and entertainment stalls.
Organised by youth group Berkshire YFC, the event saw members taking part in practical show classes throughout the day, as well as entertaining competitions such as welly-throwing, bale-rolling and tug ‘o’ war.
Bob Hogg sheep racing was one of the star attractions, with the animals beating the humans in both an adult and children’s race.
Also on display in the main ring were the Kintbury Gun Dogs, the Vine & Craven hounds and a farm machinery demonstration.
In the countryside area visitors could watch the ferret racing, enjoy a donkey ride and get up close to some of the animals in the petting zoo.
There were also tradestands, a craft fair and a food fair to help make sure everyone was fed and watered.
Elsewhere Mr Muddle Magician, a funfair, climbing wall and family picnic area ensured the day had something for everyone to enjoy.
And the green of Butlers hot air balloon could be seen rising majestically over the showground as it took off from the fair.
This year the event was preceded by a performance from legendary popular country band the Wurzels, who took to the stage at the showground on Friday evening.
Nearly 700 tickets were sold for the concert, which was also organised by Berkshire Young Farmers.
The Berkshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs welcomes young people aged between 10 and 28. There are four Young Farmers clubs in Berkshire.
