Rotarians help build school halfway round globe

The least we could do to give youngsters better start in life.

BUSINESSMAN Allan Snook recently returned from a holiday in South Africa with a mission in mind.

As a result, he and colleages in Hungerford Rotary Club joined forces with fellow Rotarians half way round the globe

During his break Mr Snook, a member of Hungerford Rotary Club, attended a school opening ceremony (pictured) and was inspired by the way his fellow Rotarians in Haenertsburg, in South Africa's Limpopo Province, had raised money to build modern buildings for local children.

Upon his return he rallied support from fellow Rotary Club members.

Consequently a cheque has now been presented by Hungerford Rotary Club to the Haenertsburg Rotary Club to match the latter's own funding of nearly £3,000.

As a result, a new Childhood Early Learning Centre will be built in Limpopo Province, for 40 pre-school children between the ages of two and five years old.

It is expected to be ready for use by summer this year.

Mr Snook said: "Having seen the lack of such amenities in the area it was the least we could have done to improve matters and give these village youngsters a better start in life".
