Thatcham Roteract and Rotary Club’s go the extra mile

Thatcham Rotary may aim to walk 500 miles but Thatcham Rotaract wanted to walk 500 more.

The competition was fierce between the two clubs who went head to head in a walking challenge for charity.

Last week they set off to see who could walk, skip, hop or jump the most miles in one week, all in aid of West Berks Foodbank.

Six Rotactors and 22 Rotarians took part and walked distances and tracked their miles.

And the Rotaract club ended victorious.

They managed a combined 669.76 miles – with some people’s miles still coming in.

The target of £1,000 has been achieved and donations are still coming in.

The Thatcham Rotary Club has congratulated the winners and says it looks forward to another challenge next year.

The Rotaract Club said it was delighted with the result as the money will be going to the local foodbank.

West Berks Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in local communities, as well as across the UK.

Over the past 12 months, three million emergency food parcels were given by this network to people facing hardship.

Thatcham Rotary said this is the highest ever level of need, more than during peak of the pandemic.
