Royal British Legion celebrates 90th birthday
The Newbury branch celebrated the occasion with a day of fun at Newbury College on Saturday
A DAY of fun was recently held at Newbury College to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion (RBL).
The day started with the standards being inspected, then, during the day people could browse craft and charity stalls or listen to the local bands playing throughout the event.
There was also a martial arts demonstration to finish the day.
The event, held on Saturday, June 11, was organised by the Newbury branch of the RBL with Newbury Young People's Council.
One of the organisers, Newbury's junior mayor Cameron Smyth, said that he felt that people already knew about the RBL because of the poppy appeal so the event had not really been held for that purpose.
He said: "It's worthy of celebrating, they do a lot of good.
"The remembrance they do is fantastic and they help soldiers."
Mr Smyth added that he had hoped more people had turned up but that they had a lot of support from people who had attended.
People who attended gave donations and he added: "It is important that people give what they can."
