Royal County of Berkshire show opens today in glorious sunshine

The weather is glorious today (Saturday) at Newbury Showground as thousands of people descend on the Chieveley venue to take in the year's premium agricultural event.
Newburytoday.co.uk will bring you the best of the show as the weekend proceeds, so if you can't make it, keep checking www.newburytoday.co.uk for pictures and tales over the next two days, and keep your eye on our Twitter feed @newburytoday
Show organisers have gone all out this year to include spectacles touching on the big events of the last twelve months, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the Olympics and Paralympics.
There will also be two familiar faces along as special guests; TV presenters John Craven, best known for presenting BBC’s Countryfile, will be special guest at the show on Sunday, and Clare Balding, who will be running a celebration lap of the main ring with the Olympic Torch.
Members of the public will be able to meet Mr Craven when he signs copies of his book, Countryfile Handbook, at the Showground.
Alongside the 600 stands and stalls there will be arts and craft competitions and eye-popping displays in the main arena.
Britain’s iconic wartime aircraft, the Spitfire, is to perform a Jubilee year salute, and on the ground there will also be some spectacular aerobatics from a BMX stunt team.
The livestock turnout is looking particularly strong, according to the show chairman Ian Nutt, with an opportunity for families to see a host of rare breeds amongst the ever popular cattle, sheep and poultry.
Priors Court Road in Hermitage will be closed between 6am and 8pm on today and tomorrow, and a number of AA signs will be placed around the area to help drivers avoid delays.
