Royal Mail lorry driver airlifted to hospital following M4 collision

According to Richard Young, watch manager for Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station, two pumps from Newbury, one from Whitley Wood and the heavy rescue unit from Tilehurst were called at 11pm, after an HGV overturned, after a collision also involving a 4 x 4, between junctions 13 and 12 eastbound.
“The HGV driver was trapped under the cab. We used hydraulic lifting equipment to release him,” said Mr Young.
The lorry driver was airlifter to hospital by police helicopter, as the air ambulance service does not fly at night and was believed to be suffering with serious head injuries, according to Mr Young.
The car driver, a woman, and two child passengers, were suffering from shock.
The M4 was closed in both directions and firefighters left the scene after about three hours.
UPDATE 2PM
Thames Valley Police have confirmed the lorry involved in the collision belonged to Royal Mail and the other vehicle involved was a black Honda CRV.
The lorry driver was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, in a Thames Valley Police helicopter.
His injuries were described as serious, but stable as of 7am today (Monday).
The M4 eastbound was closed for four hours last night (Sunday) between 11pm and 4am, following the collision.
