Royal opening for new Marlborough cinema
THE new independent cinema in Marlborough received royal approval on Thursday when they welcomed Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall to formally open The Parade.
The duchess was greeted by chairman Robert Hiscox and Marlborough mayor Mark Cooper. She was introduced to manager David Williams, directors, architects, staff and local supporters and then had a tour of the restored Chapel. The 19th century former non-conformist chapel has been restored and transformed into a state-of-the-art cinema with 104 seats as well as a bar and café area.
The duchess took her seat with the auditorium and watched a short collection of trailers and unveiled a plaque marking her visit.
She said: “It is going to be a huge asset for everybody in Marlborough, round Marlborough and the whole of Wiltshire.". The Duchess was presented with a posy of flowers by Charlotte Annegarn of Woodborough School.
Chairman and director of Image Cinemas Ltd Robert Hiscox said: “The Duchess was very flattering and seemed particularly impressed by the restoration of a handsome old building to a useful community asset. She hoped to bring her grandchildren to a film one day.”
