Princess Royal attends racing at Newbury Racecourse to present winning trophy for charity race
There was a special royal visit to Newbury today (Thursday) for the BetVictor Jumps season opener.
Princess Anne was in attendance at Newbury to present the trophy for the British Horse Society Charity Race, which was won by the Shaun Lycett-trained Stately Home, ridden by Amy Ferris.
The Princess Royal arrived via helicopter and enjoyed chatting to many of the jockeys in the charity race after it finished.
Speaking after the race, winning jockey Miss Ferris: "My cheeks hurt, an incredible amount [because of the smiling]," she said. "Everyone told me I was on a really good horse, but you don't actually believe you'll be the one crossing the finishing line first."
On receiving the award from Princess Anne, she said: "It is pretty special. I have worked it all around a full-time job, I have been working on my fitness and the testing for it all has been pretty gruelling.
"I have also come back from France after a week away with my full-time job, so I rushed back into the yard on Wednesday to sit on him."
