Race for Life hosts 30th anniversary race at Newbury Racecourse in aid of Cancer Research UK

Hundreds of people turned out in the warm weekend weather to walk, jog and run their way around Newbury Racecourse as part of an annual charity event.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life returned to Newbury on Sunday, offering a 5k and a 10k option for those wanting to push themselves a little more.

After a mass warm-up for all participants, the events kicked off at around 11am.

The racecourse was a sea of colour, under the early summer sunshine, as many of the charity fun-runners turned out in pink T-shirts.

Even some of the male participants were spotted in the colour – which has become synonymous with the event.

This is the 30th year of Race for Life and all participants received a special medal to mark the milestone.

The annual Race for Life helps to raise thousands of pounds to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

Every year, an estimated 54,100 people are diagnosed with cancer in the South East.

Cancer Research UK’s Berkshire spokeswoman Elisa Mitchell, said: “Sadly, one in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime, but support through events like Race for Life funds groundbreaking work to see more people surviving cancer.
