Runners provide funding boost
Two local organisations have benefited from the Bayer 10k race in Newbury in May
FUNDS for two local organisations have been boosted by thousands of pounds, thanks to the efforts of runners in the Bayer Newbury 10k race earlier this year.
Nearly 700 competitors put on their running shoes for the May race sponsored by Bayer and the pharmaceutical company based in Newbury handed over two cheques recently worth a total of £10,226, to be split between the Newbury and District MS Society and the race organisers, Newbury Athletic Club.
Newbury and District MS Society will also benefit from a further £1,663 thanks to additional pledges and donations privately made by runners.
John Holt of Newbury and District MS Society, said the society was “enormously grateful” to Newbury Athletic Club, Bayer, runners and sponsors.
“Every penny we are given is converted into services worth five times as much, because our branch volunteers give their time for nothing in all manner of important ways. So the race proceeds coming our way will actually empower us to provide £30-35k of much needed services for local people affected by MS,” said Mr Holt.
