Sainsbury's Newbury raises £5,000 for chosen charity
Store presents cheque to West Berkshire Cruse Breavement Care
SAINSBURY'S in Newbury has presented a cheque for £5,000 to its chosen charity as part of the Local Charity of the Year scheme.
The store, in Hector Way, has been busy raising money for Newbury-based West Berkshire Cruse Bereavement Care through a variety of activities including a sponsored walk, tombola and themed store fundraising days.
The charity was chosen by customers and colleagues last June and has received support from the supermarket for the past year.
Store manager of Sainsbury’s Newbury, Dene Burton, said: “We’ve had an excellent year supporting Cruse, our customers and colleagues have got involved with a number of fundraising activities.
“We’d like to thank everyone involved for making it such a brilliant partnership.”
Cruse volunteer and fundraiser, Ruth Tibbetts, added: “We’d like to thank the customers and colleagues at Sainsbury’s in Newbury for their support over the past year, it has been a very successful partnership.
“For us this hasn’t been just about the money raised but also about raising the profile of Cruse in the local community.”
West Berkshire Cruse Bereavement Care has specially trained volunteers who offer support to local people who have suffered bereavement.
Volunteers from the charity were invited to the Newbury supermarket for an end of year celebration tea party and to receive the cheque.
Sainsbury’s will be drawing up a shortlist of charities to support for the coming year.
Customers can then vote for the store’s new charity both in-store and online at www.sainsburyslocalcharity.co.uk from June 15 to 28.
