Salvation Army launches job search scheme for those without internet

The Employment Plus scheme will provide drop-in sessions offering access to the internet and computer equipment to search and apply for jobs.
It will also allow for people to search for property available to rent.
The free sessions will run every Thursday from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm and 4pm at the Salvation Army community centre, Northcroft Lane, Newbury.
Appointments are not necessary, and visitors can stay for as long as they wish during these times.
Newbury mayor, Jo Day, marked the launch with the cutting of a ribbon at the centre on Thursday.
Major Barbara Warner, of the Salvation Army, said: “There are many people in Newbury who, through poverty, through homelessness, don’t have access to a computer where they can do their job searches, where they can look for property...we are looking to provide that.
“It also gives them a point of contact. If they are homeless they haven’t got an address, but they could have an email address.”
She added that the sessions aren’t exclusively for the homeless and those on low incomes, with anyone with no access to the internet welcome to attend to look for employment.
