Newbury Samaritans raise nearly £800 at 24/7 awareness event

Newbury Samaritans held its 24/7 awareness event on Northbrook Street and raised nearly £800, the most money raised at the annual fundraiser.

In a stall set up outside Marks & Spencer on Saturday, July 23, Samaritans volunteers asked passers-by to give donations, and in return they could spin the dial on their 24-hour clock.

Anyone lucky enough to land on 24 or 7 won a voucher donated by a local business.

Newbury Samaritans volunteer Helen Rodgers said: “It was great as always.

“It is to remind people that we are at the end of the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

The final total of money raised on the day was £787.72.

As well as running the clock challenge, volunteers also gave out leaflets to people who were interested in joining the Samaritans, or contact details should anyone want to speak to them.
