Sandleford likely to be built on after council’s core strategy is found sound

However, the Government planning inspector tasked with looking into the soundness of the document has made a number of modifications to the core strategy.
The document encompasses the council’s planning framework up to 2026, and includes plans to build up to 2,000 dwellings on Sandleford Park (pictured).
A public hearing into the core strategy was held in Newbury in May after Government-appointed independent inspector Simon Emerson wanted to know why Sandleford was chosen for development.
Plans to build on Sandleford have already come under criticism from the Say-NOtoSandleford campaign group and Liberal Democrat opposition on West Berkshire Council.
However, Mr Emerson has today (Friday) found the core strategy sound, paving the way for development on Sandleford.
The inspector has made modifications to the document, saying that any development on Sandleford should be confined to the north and west of the site.
Mr Emerson has also told the council to review its housing provision of 10,500 homes by 2026 within three years.
