Santa spotted in Newbury
Father Christmas warms up for annual Santa Jog in Victoria Park
FATHER Christmas has already been spotted in Newbury - limbering up for the charity fundraising Newbury Santa jog at the end of November.
He was sighted in several places jogging, stretching and exercising, including the town centre last Thursday (Oct 20), after being invited to launch the annual jog in Victoria Park, in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Mary Bareham, fundraising volunteer manager for the BHF South region, said the jog was a ”fantastic, fun event” which raised life-saving funds.
“Last year we had over 300 people take part and we hope to beat that this year,” she said, adding that the charity received great support locally, particularly from Newbury Town Council which provided the location for the event free of charge.
With a 1km route and the option of running, jogging, or walking up to five laps of the course, the fun-filled, family event is said to be suitable for all ages and abilities and a great way to kick-start the Christmas festivities.
The Newbury Santa Jog starts from Victoria Park at 11.30am on November 27 and will finish around 1pm. Entry fee £10 adults and £5 for under 14's. All adults receive a free Santa suit, with children encouraged to dress in their favourite festive costume and best dress competition at the start.
