Santas out in full force for Thatcham Rotary’s fun run
Around 200 runners joined Thatcham and District Rotary Club’s Great Santa Fun Run on Sunday.
Braving the last of Storm Darragh, which caused damage and power cuts across the district, runners of all ages took part in full Santa costume.
A spokesperson for Thatcham and District Rotary Club added: “The atmosphere was really strong.
“We had to cut back on the actual route because of the weather, so it was a road only route.”
Club president Audrey Kelly added: “What an amazing spectacle. Despite the weather, the people of Thatcham turned out in large numbers.
“It was a very successful event and we are grateful for the support of all the runners.”
The community event helped raise around £1,000 in aid of West Berks Foodbank, which is currently low on stock for the Christmas period.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “Without local organisations supporting our charity, we would not be able to continue our work in the community.”
Meryl Praill, founder of Newbury Soup Kitchen, also commented: “The weather did not dampen our spirits.
“We had great fun and were so impressed to see such a wonderful turnout.
“Fundraising is extremely important to our charity and getting out the meet the public and support other events is enjoyable.”
Thatcham Rotary wishes to extend its gratitude to all sponsors, runners and supporters who made this year’s event possible including UHY Ross Brooke Chartered Accountants, Mayor of Thatcham Suzanne Adamantos, who handed out medals to all the participants, Kennet Radio and Newbury Soup Kitchen.
