Watch tonight's performance of From Newbury with Love as it happens
If you click on www.redcapetheatre.co.uk at 7.45pm tonight (Wednesday), you will be able to view the live performance of the new play by RedCape Theatre, performed at the Corn Exchange, Newbury.
1971 – In the depths of the Cold War, 7 year old Marina Aidova, who lived in Moldova and was the daughter of an imprisoned Soviet dissident, received a postcard from across the Iron Curtain that changed her family's life. It simply read 'With love from Newbury. Berks. England. Harold and Olive'. Prompted by the Amnesty International letter-writing campaign the postcard was sent by 73-year-old Newbury resident Harold Edwards and his wife, Olive; so began a 15-year correspondence and friendship between the families. Specially commissioned by the Corn Exchange, the multi-award winning RedCape Theatre (The Idiot Colony) present the premiere of their brand new show, From Newbury with Love, which tells the intimate story of daily life in two very different worlds during a fascinating period of social and political history.
"Because my father was imprisoned in a gulag, for running an illegal printing press, people were afraid to talk to us, it was a very lonely life. To receive these letters was a sign that someone cared," said Marina Aidova.
From Newbury With Love will also include performances from Newbury Youth Theatre and pupils from the Aleccu Russo school in Chisnau, Moldova, who have been taking part in a cultural exchange and facebook communication.
There will be an interval of 15 minutes at about 8.30pm.
Turtle Key Arts & RedCape Theatre in association with Stream UK are presenting the free live satellite link
