Saturday’s racing at Newbury Racecourse abandoned due to rain

Following yesterday’s cancellation of today’s race meet, Newbury Racecourse has announced that Saturday’s racing has been abandoned as well.

All racing tomorrow has been abandoned due to the recent heavy rainfall which has resulted in a waterlogged track.

On Thursday it was hoped that Saturday’s race meet would still go ahead, but continued rainfall this morning and more showers forecast confirmed the cancellation.

A racecourse spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, due to further rainfall this morning on top of a waterlogged track, racing is abandoned for the BetVictor Flat Season Finale with Oktoberfest on Saturday 28 October 2023, as well as Friday 27 October.

“The track is not raceable and will not improve in time for tomorrow, especially considering the further rain forecast.

“All ticket holders for Saturday’s racing will receive an email with further detail.”
