Scenic Boxford gardens open in aid of defibrillator
Flower filled church also open for charity
Picturesque gardens and flower displays in Boxford village church will help raise funds for a village defibrillator this weekend.
When a popular villager suffered a heart attack a few weeks ago, neighbours realised the need for a life-saving defibrillator in the village, and volunteers trained to use it.
This weekend Boxford Open Gardens will be donating half the proceeds to the village’s defibrillator project.
Gardens large and small, in riverside and rural locations, will be on show between 10.30am and 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday, to stimulate the horticultural imagination.
Flower displays in St Andrew’s Church will take on the theme of ‘Afternoon Tea in the Garden’. Meanwhile, afternoon teas and light snacks will be served in The Mill House and proceeds will be divided between the defibrillator project and church.
Friends and relations of the heart attack victim are being sponsored to run in the Gibbet Challenge to raise funds for the defibrillator. This is a tough 10km event, which involves participants running up Walbury Hill to Combe Gibbet and then back down to Inkpen – twice.
