School building demolished after being built without permission

West Berkshire Council took enforcement action against the Brockhurst School in Marlston for building two bungalow-style houses for staff accommodation without going through the planning process.
The council warned it could tear down any development built without permission and warned against flouting guidelines.
Despite submitting a retrospective planning application the independent school was knocked back on grounds of failing to demonstrate adequate need for the accommodation.
Having fallen foul of strict rules over development inside the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the school was issued with a notice to remove the two buildings, which was reduced to one on appeal.
The council said the school voluntarily demolished the building earlier this month.
